Meet the Speaker – Joe Chuang
Professor Joe Chuang
City, University of London
We talk to Professor Joe Chuang from City, University of London about what drives his interest in Representation Theory and what would have been if it had not been for mathematics
1. What drives your interest in this field?
What I especially enjoy about the representation theory of symmetric groups is the interplay between combinatorics and homological algebra.
2. What are the next interesting “big questions” or challenges you hope to tackle?
I would really like to know a homological analogue of Alperin’s weight conjecture.
3. If not a mathematics researcher, what would you have been?
A struggling musician.
4. What is the best piece of advice you have ever received?
Make the best of opportunities to develop your interests outside of career.
Professor Joe Chuang will be presenting the topic Modular representations of symmetric groups at the 2020 Winter School at The University of Queensland from 29 June – 10 July
